The Nine Chakras

The first chakra is located at the base of the spine and is often described as the coccygeal centre. It is associated with physical energy, the will to live in the physical reality on our Earth, and the manifestation of the life force. Red Jasper is the beneficial stone used for this chakra; encouraging and sustaining vitality. It is also an aid in fertility.

The second chakra is located just below the navel. It is the centre where joy, anger, happiness and sadness are located. Creativity and expression also reside here. Orange carnelian is used for this chakra as it is said to be a motivator to accomplish tasks. It is the color of Joy and allows us to nurture ourselves while taking on the world as a producer of joy. Carnelian can also be carried in those cases of social instability, alienation, and can be used for blisters caused by burns.

The third chakra is the Solar Plexus which is yellow like the universal sun, and located just above the navel. It is the spiritual sun and receiver of incoming, unseen messages. It is the great power centre often felt by others when projected. It aids in shedding light on problems. Yellow citrine helps digestion and persons dealing with suicidal thoughts (ideally in a necklace).

The fourth chakra is the Heart which carries circulation and life force to every cell. Universal and self-love begin here. Green is the major color and exemplified in Green Aventurine which is a type of quartz that dissolves unhealthy feelings and neutralizes suppressed emotions. People wash their face with aventurine water for acne and skin disorders, regenerating the skin. It has been known to relieve pain.

The fifth chakra is the throat chakra, governing our ability to express and verbalize our needs. When this chakra clears and opens, we experience great release. Blue Lace Agate is used for this energy centre, which provides assistance while soothing and balancing our self-made restrictions.

The sixth chakra is the Third Eye located between the eyebrows in the middle of your forehead. It is here that we see the images of the past, present and future. It separates reality from illusion and will give a creative idea physical manifestation. Dark blue sodalite is the awakener of this energy centre. It clears the mind for greater understanding and intuition, preparing it to receive insight.

The seventh chakra is the Crown (skeletal system, skin and muscular system/the center of spirituality and enlightenment), located on the top of the head which gives way to higher consciousness. Amethyst and the color purple connect the Earth and Heavens, creating a sense of an infinite Universe. Amethyst means "without alcohol" or "not drunken" in Greek and as such, is an excellent sobriety stone, guarding against overindulgences of all sorts. It promotes calmness in meditation; healthy sleep, and it is the stone associated with Neptune, the planet that Pisces is ruled by. It brings clarity to the conscious and unconscious mind. It is said to treat swellings, insect bites and acne. Do not expose it to the sun. It increases confidence and concentration. Wearing a necklace made of it is suppose to fascinate others with personality and charisma. Magical properties are warding off danger, violent death, burglars and thieves.

There are two stones in addition to the ones used for the 7 chakras, which completes our energy centres with the 8th and 9th. Hematite is an excellent grounding stone and is used in the 8th chakra for the "below" (1st) base. It will bring lofty thoughts to fruition on earth. Any time you wish to be in the present, meditate or are experiencing stressful times, keep hematite with you.

Clear quartz is solidified light for the 9th chakra "above" (7th) crown, and is the most highly evolved substance in the mineral kingdom with its various healing qualities. It assists in releasing karma; transmits and receives energy. It connects us to other light forces beyond our ability to see.Pure quartz is composed of silicon dioxide and forms 6 sided crystals. Other varieties of quartz include amethyst and rose quartz. Quartz is used in glass, in the communications industry and as an oscillator in watches and clocks.
